OUR MISSION

The mission of the Scenic City Certification Program is to support and recognize Texas municipalities that implement high-quality scenic standards for public roadways and public spaces, with the long-term goal of improving the image of all cities.

 

Why Apply for Scenic City Certification?

The Scenic City Certification Program is not a “beauty contest.” Nowhere in the application is a municipality asked to submit photos because, frankly, any city can hire a good photographer to take a pretty picture of a city’s distinctive features. Instead, earning Scenic City distinction demonstrates local government responsibility. Becoming a Scenic City is the result of your local government's smart decisions regarding the development, re-development and growth of your community. Having in place the network of ordinances, rules, regulations and programs that earn Scenic City certification:

  • improves property values
  • attracts new business
  • enhances economic development efforts
  • educates your citizens about the importance and impact of local decision-making
  • improves quality of life for residents
  • makes your city more appealing to tourists
